Not surprisingly, one of the top bike fit laboratories in the country is in Boulder, CO…where I currently call home.  The Boulder Center for Sports Medicine , among other accomplishments, is the origin of Specialized’s Body Geometry technology.  Pro bike racers from all over the world go to BCSM for their bike fits.  I made an appointment and it turned out to be one of the best things I have ever done both for this trip and for improvement of overall biking performance.  The Tron-esque analysis identified several ergonomic issues I’d been dealing with for years but ignored because I thought it was “part of it.”  A couple of tweaks here and there, custom footbeds with shims to offset some knee problems and my riding experience changed for the better.    I like to infer advice for the most part, but in this case I will be very direct:  If you are planning to do this ride, get a thorough bike fit.  It is absolutely worth the cost!
